Storybook: Odor Boy Saves the Day

We have been busy with moving to the new house and switching schools for the past three months. The kids and I didn't have time to do projects together for quite some time.

Big E recently had a writing assignment from school. The topic was to write about your favorite story character and also describe the character traits.

Big E suddenly thought of his own story character "Odor Boy" and decided to write another story about him. I thought it was a brilliant idea! This could turn into a great series of books! (P.S. The little girl looks a bit like Little E :)

Storybook: Odor Boy and The Arguing Peas

Big E discovered a couple of chapter book series he's interested in reading from our weekly library visit. One of them is Captain Awesome. The story is about a 8 year old boy who loves comic books and superheroes. He also has his very own secret superhero alter ego - Captain Awesome!

The vivid illustration has inspired Big E to create his own superhero storybook. And of course, I can totally tell my 7 year old boy's humor in his character and plot creation...

Here is Big E's new storybook - Odor Boy and The Arguing Peas

Storybook: The Paper that Eats People

Going to the local library is one of our Saturday routines every weekend. This week we checked out a book called "The Book that Eats People". It tells a story about a book that really, really, eats people. The vivid and colorful illustration really caught the eyes of my two little readers. But this book doesn't seem to be a good choice for bedtime story : )

This book also reminded Big E one of our favorite picture books by Oliver Jeffers - "The Incredible Book Eating Boy". It tells a story about a boy, Henry, who likes to eat all sorts of books, red ones especially. He became smarter and smarter until one day he couldn't digest them anymore. The information inside started to jumble up!

Inspired by these two wonderful stories, Big E created his own storybook:
The Paper that Eats People

Storybook: The SqueezeNecker

Last Saturday, the kids wanted to have a piece of chocolate in the afternoon. As Daddy was opening the pantry, Big E yelled excitedly "I want, the, the, hmm, the SqueezeNecker!"

Knowing what he was really asking for, I couldn't stop laughing and told him it's called "Snickers". After Big E opened his mini Snickers, it was indeed a bit squeezed and crushed!

Two days later, Big E came up with his fifth storybook - The SqueeseNecker.

Storybook: Mr. Ballee Went Down the Drain

After swimming lesson today, I was trying to give Big E a quick bath. I was in a hurry to prepare dinner but he insisted on playing with bath toys and wouldn't come out of the tub. When I started to drain the tub water, his yellow plastic toy ball was floating toward the drain.

All of a sudden, Big E said " Oh no, Mr. Ballee is going down the drain!" in a southern accent! I burst into laughter and told him it would be a great story idea.

Inspired by a true event, here is Big E's fourth story book - Mr. Ballee Went Down the Drain.

Storybook: The Naked Red Crayon

Big E's teacher read the story "The Day the Crayons Quit" to the class today. Big E still couldn't stop laughing when he was trying to retell the story to me. Later tonight, he was inspired to make his third storybook.

Storybook: The Quack that Ate a Quarter

March 25, 2013
Big E came home from Kindergarten and told me he learned about rhyming words.
He said he had a funny idea that made his friends laugh.
I suggested to make it into a booklet so he could share with more people.
Here is Big E's first storybook.
